...we're a family here."
So I put together an impromptu dance at the farmer's market this saturday.. free, public, and everyone is invited. we'll have dj'd music and as many swing dancers as I can FIND to commit to being somewhere at 11am.
I am really hoping this goes well! i'd love to have access to a public space like this on a regular basis.. good swinging jazz is just too amazing not to be heard and danced to, out in the open where everyone can love it.
Geeky dance details i've posted on facebook:
What: Swing dancing at the farmer's market!!
Why: Most larger swing scenes have a free, public venue somewhere for the community to see some swing dancing and join in if the spirit moves them.
COST: Free
Please come, and bring your dance and non-dance friends! Farmer's market is LOTS of fun this time of year!
More info:
Nashville Farmers Market

We are in the 'marketplace' building (food court area) in the middle, with market sheds on either side. We're dancing inside, along the blue construction tarps in the back... the area is under some renovation, so venture under the blue tarps!
The floor is slick concrete. my rubber soled running shoes stuck fast, but my taped up keds were fine. suede/leather would probably be fine, too.. and shouldn't get scuffed up too badly.
Bring your recycled or canvas bags and do some shopping! maybe bring an item or two for the 2nd harvest food bank! If you have a lot of stuff to carry around, you may want to leave it in your cars so we don't lose room to dance-- we definitely want to fit in our designated area as a courtesy to the vendors.
I'm SO excited! see you saturday!
So you guys should come. I will be there, probably wearing a nametag that says 'Kat'. Please say hi :)
EEE!
I'm literally the dirtiest I could be without having attended Burning-man. Today I did a solo charleston workshop, cute girly moves and a little routine.. It was most fun. I came home and slept like the dead for a few hours (still on night shift, obviously) and then headed back to the studio for the dance. Tonight's dance was great.. Lots of new people and many of the regulars. We spent a portion of the time rolling around on the floor, doing little crawling cutesy burlesque moves (clothed.. perverts), splits, cartwheels, etc. When the dance was over, we hung out in the parking lot, trying to figure out what to do next, before I finally convinced a few dancers to come out to Cafe Coco (24 hour!) and hang out. Trying to stay awake, you realize.
So we went, had some coffee and hummous, some conversation, and then we took our act outside where we moved a bunch of chairs and tables, and danced to whatever was on the speakers. I has some fun dances to great music. In Music-(not including jazz)-City, we take what we can get for music and dancefloor.
Just got home.. it was hot and humid, i'm sweaty and exhausted, and really thinking about a glass of water.
yay. good day.
blowjob?
No? let's do lunch.
(best pickup line ever)
Status today is i'm angsty and frustrated because there is no one to dance with tonight. I just want to pick up the phone, call someone --just one decent lead-- and have him show up at the honky tonks. people here do not share my enthusiasm. I know they think i'm needy, but hell.. i'm done waiting around for people to ask me..
Back in cali, I would dance 4 nights a week if i could, and a lot of times I'd dance more. Sick, tired, busy, whatever, I made time. It frustrates me that there's.. servicable.. live music playing somewhere and i can't find anyone to dance to it.
shit shit shit.
Tonight, I have kickbox, then a hip hop class.. I should be pretty exhausted after all that, but all I can think about is dancing. Because it's starting to seem like, no matter how much else I pick up, i can't fill the place where dancing is supposed to go.
godfuckingdamn it.
I didn't even know you had a pride weekend. Yay fun!! I want to hit the Sunday festival if possible..

this middle finger goes out to mcfaddens and most especially to the 71 year old guy working the door, who insists there will be no hats on his watch.. not on heads, not in bags, not in or on or near any persons unfortunate enough to enter the establishment and pay hard-earned american dollars for beers. My only regret is I wasn't packing that big orange wiffle bat and a little more attitude.
So what's more fun than hanging with assholes who don't wear hats? and who drink shit beer? and who i wouldn't be caught dead in a bar with ordinarily, but one of my friends was having a party?
Drinking a bud by our own damn selves on the sofa. for $2.49, which all the high-school graduates NOT hanging out at McFuckers will realize is a 2 cent-per-ounce savings over a six-pack and a FIVE cent-per-ounce savings over whatever piss beer they were selling at a discount at McFisting.
dont' drink and drive, folks.
is anything fun going on in nashville tonight? My bf has to work until 2am-ish and i already spent the other night eating hot dogs and crying my eyes out watching 'Bridge to Terebithia'.
let. me. know.

This morning on I40, i watched someone run over a cat. It's bad enough to see these poor animals laying in shreds on the side of the road, it's quite another to have to see it happen. I bet the person who hit it feels terrible; the brake lights indicated that he or she, along with myself, and probably all the cars around me, saw it jumping around in terror for its final few seconds. But obviously there was nowhere to go but straight. How terrible. Two minutes later I was still driving with one hand to my mouth, trying not to cry, when I saw the body of midsized dog laying off to the left. And I knew that at the I40-I65 split, I'd pass what was left of an.. Aussie Shepherd? Border Collie? that had been laying there since around Christmas, once a beloved pet, now a science project. Would it be SO HARD to keep your pets off the freeway, Nashville? I'd wager not; In the six years I spent living near the busiest freeways in our nation, the only roadkill I regularly saw were possums, raccoons, skunks, and the occasional deer. Your truck bed is not a place for your adopted family member, just like you wouldn't throw your child or a parent back there to sleep on corregated steel and hope they don't fall out when you get a little wild on the stick. That cat had -no place- on the road. If it wasn't a stray, it probably came from the apartments off I40, people who'd let their cats run around and play all night when it's 30 degrees and they're yards from a major thoroughfare. Lock up your fucking pets, nashville. be civilized? Mkay? PS if anyone is missing a young, shiny black cat, you can find it in the second lane from the left, I40Eastbound somewhere between Old Hickory and Charlotte Pike. Take your time; I'm sure it will still be there tomorrow, or a week from now.
Welllll I think everyone is canning the idea of an official meetup, but Ali and I are having dinner at 6pm at the Calypso Cafe on Elliston Place:

If any nashvillians would like to come, let me know!
:)

Note: there will be no cakes with depressed girls [jumping out|huddled inside] of them, we are saving that for MainMor's birthday -- which is not to be confused with any other incidental December celebrations.
i'm such a list-person. I know the bullet points offend all my literary creative-writing -type friends, but seriously, this is how i organize my life. well the parts of it that are organized, anyway. (um. vox).
1) i signed up for that goddamned half-marathon. If at any point any of you would like to shoot me in the head, please do this by april 26.
2) while we're on the subject of 'things i don't want to be doing, at all, under any circumstances, could i be any more masochistic' -- i joined a half-marathon training group which meets AT SEVEN AM ON SATURDAYS.
holy. hell. This is the thing. the dancing here has fizzled out entirely, and i'm falling out of shape. My schedule isn't overwhelmingly accommodating to pilates classes and strip-yoga or whatever the hell is popular these days. Remember also, that when i'm dancing, i'm not eating. and when i'm not, i am. and tennessee is not california, just ask waffle house.
What i'm trying to say is: desperate times call for desperate, seven AM, measures.
3) I am cursed. Advair is not the miracle drug i was hoping for. I'm tempted to just quit everything and see what shakes out. I don't want to take meds if they aren't working. I'd rather be miserable AND drug-free, ya feel me?
4) We saw this movie.. Margot at the wedding. Someone smarter than i am, please chime in and tell me what I was supposed to get out of this film? Besides being annoyed and glad it was over? Margot was so highstrung and frustrating, i really did want her to throw herself in front of a train or off a ledge. She's the personification of nails on a chalkboard eeeEEEeeescreeeeeech.
5) speaking of the belcourt theater, anyone wanna see Blade runner at midnight on Saturday or Sunday? ????
6) and speaking of SciFi, is the book club on for tomorrow?
7) and speaking of facebook, i spammed all my friends with a graffiti meant for one birthday boy. Facebook wouldn't wanna go out of its way to, i dunno, tell you that you're sending grafitti to all your friends, or anything, would they?
8) oh look at that, it's gin-o-clock. laters.
