There are three, in order of occurrance
1) When I was a freshman in highschool, I was performing in a spring show of student-directed scenes. I needed a costume for the scene and a -super cool- sophomore named Marriott suggested I wear a costume another girl had worn months earlier in the fall show. I didn't reply as i pictured her tiny little waist and skinny little arms in my head and compared them to my own not-so-tiny-or-skinny bits, and Marriot said "It's ok. you're skinny too. it'll fit". A vote of confidence for my already waning self image! And it did fit. I'll never understand the physics of that one.
2) A year or so after I started dancing frequently, a girl with short blonde/pink hair came up to me at two separate dance venues and told me a) my spins are fantastic and b) i have great frame. Both are true, now, but no one had ever said anything to me before then. She's therefore responsible for my very first validations as a dancer, and now Pebbles is one of my best friends in Cali. She's also a pretty teriffic dancer herself, performing, competing and teaching locally. She's definitely got the drive to be the kind of dancer i like to watch. she's also cute as hell. and turkish.
3) A couple years ago an ex-boyfriend dumped me miserably on my ass and made me feel like a total worthless loser so that he could hook up with some tequila swilling grad student in Berkeley. In order to keep from completely falling to pieces, I threw myself into dancing and found myself a month later at the Windy City Lindy Exchange (WCLX) in Chicago, dancing in their venues, making friends and having a teriffic time in spite of my recent savage emotional beating. At the Saturday late-night dance, i came out of the bathroom to find a guy waiting by the door, and he asked me to dance and it was -awesome-. When we finished he said "That was amazing, now i can leave". Imagine! he'd been waiting all night to dance with me! Dance validation number 3--- intranational. He's a SUPER great dancer, so much better than i am, it's amazing we're even allowed on the same floor, but we are, and he's good dance fun if you're ever lindy-hopping in Minneapolis.
so this is why my head's so big, if you were wonderin'.
